The road from setback to success isn't always a straight line. JCorey Williams journey proves that sometimes the most winding paths lead to the most extraordinary destinations.

During our vibrant Vegan Cookout episode, JCorey opens up about losing his band scholarship after failing graduation exams – a crushing blow that temporarily derailed his dreams. His candid revelation about once mocking students who had to retake tests, only to become one himself, showcases the humility that would later define his leadership style. The turning point? A judge who saw potential in him offered to drop charges if he earned his GED, sparking a remarkable educational comeback.

JCorey doesn't sugarcoat his struggles. He admits to initially flunking out of college with straight Fs while pursuing his DJ career, believing fame made education unnecessary. After a year of soul-searching and encouragement from an unlikely mentor – his Wendy's manager – he returned to school with renewed purpose. His transformation was extraordinary: from failed student to campus leader, working in public relations, becoming a student recruiter, SGA representative, the first campus DJ, and eventually homecoming king.

Today, as president of GoDJs Global, JCorey oversees 250 DJs, coordinates events, and runs marketing campaigns for major brands. His influence extends across 12 radio stations, and he's even ventured into acting. What makes his accomplishments even more impressive is that he's achieved them with just an associate's degree, defying the typical educational requirements for executive positions. Coming from a single-parent household without ever meeting his father and with no family connections in entertainment, his success story is entirely self-made.

Beyond his personal achievements, JCorey's primary mission has become creating opportunities for others. "I'm not trying to take advantage of nobody," he emphasizes. "I just want to put right people in the right positions so we all can win." Follow his continuing journey on all social media @GoDJJCoreyLamar and witness firsthand how determination, faith, and hard work can transform any life, regardless of where it begins.

00:00:00.161 --> 00:00:01.707
I'm not trying to take advantage of nobody.

00:00:01.707 --> 00:00:04.668
I just want to put right people in the right positions.

00:00:43.716 --> 00:00:45.156
So we all can win.

00:00:45.156 --> 00:00:50.338
Welcome back to another episode of Experiencing Amazing Transformations.

00:00:50.338 --> 00:00:53.829
Today we are at the Beacon Cookout y'all.

00:00:53.829 --> 00:00:55.826
We are having a phenomenal time out here.

00:00:55.826 --> 00:01:01.969
Y'all hear the music, we are having a good time and right now I have a very special guest with me.

00:01:01.969 --> 00:01:09.248
He is here to just tell us a little bit about himself and what he does and how he impacts the community.

00:01:09.688 --> 00:01:14.218
Yes, so I am Ja'Cory Williams.

00:01:14.218 --> 00:01:23.661
In the entertainment world I go by Go DJ, j Cole, lamar, go DJ, yeah, so just a little bit about myself in a nutshell.

00:01:23.661 --> 00:01:28.871
I have been serving as the president of Go DJs Global since 2021.

00:01:28.871 --> 00:01:32.489
So we are basically a marketing and promotional company.

00:01:32.489 --> 00:01:34.686
I oversee 250 DJs.

00:01:34.686 --> 00:01:37.606
We set up different events as well.

00:01:37.606 --> 00:01:46.168
I land marketing and promotional campaigns which help companies spread their brand as well as help them generate income.

00:01:46.168 --> 00:01:50.069
Now I DJ on 12 different radio stations.

00:01:50.069 --> 00:01:54.531
Wow, I am a marketing director for Katrina Walker.

00:01:54.531 --> 00:01:56.746
She has a stage play.

00:01:56.746 --> 00:02:01.432
She brought it to Street Bowl, louisiana and I was able to act in it as well.

00:02:01.432 --> 00:02:03.406
So I act a little bit now.

00:02:03.406 --> 00:02:09.372
I first got into acting and my church my name is missionary back to church in Greenwood.

00:02:09.372 --> 00:02:12.382
That was my, my first play.

00:02:12.382 --> 00:02:16.959
I was in, so, um, pretty much like I say this a jack-of-all-trades.

00:02:16.959 --> 00:02:21.698
I started from the bottom of the company and worked my way all the way up.

00:02:22.060 --> 00:02:27.062
You know so well there's a little bit about myself that was awesome.

00:02:27.062 --> 00:02:27.723
That's a lot.

00:02:27.723 --> 00:02:29.026
You do a lot.

00:02:29.026 --> 00:02:31.661
Yeah, you help and impact a lot of people.

00:02:31.661 --> 00:02:33.068
How does that make you feel like?

00:02:33.068 --> 00:02:38.930
What made you get into this world, like the marketing world, making sure people get on different platforms?

00:02:38.930 --> 00:02:40.161
What made you get into DJing?

00:02:40.221 --> 00:02:49.656
and I got lots of questions, but but I like to tell people though, honestly, the journey really started wholeheartedly.

00:02:49.656 --> 00:02:52.049
I had a band scholarship to Grand Valley State University.

00:02:52.049 --> 00:02:54.627
I marched in Woodland Marching Band.

00:02:54.627 --> 00:03:00.090
I ended up losing my band scholarship due to the fact that I didn't pass the graduation exam.

00:03:00.090 --> 00:03:02.074
I passed math, I passed English.

00:03:02.074 --> 00:03:06.191
I couldn't get over that hurdle to pass that science and social studies.

00:03:06.191 --> 00:03:09.168
I really gave up.

00:03:11.304 --> 00:03:19.247
So I was that kid in school to where, like, if I see somebody who's supposed to graduate, they coming back to take the test, I kind of laugh at them, right.

00:03:19.247 --> 00:03:20.471
So I was that kid.

00:03:20.471 --> 00:03:32.652
So when everything changed and I was that person who's supposed to graduate gotta come back to the school having to take the test, right, I just felt the type of way about that.

00:03:32.652 --> 00:03:42.766
And then I was still coming to take a test without doing anything new and I kind of I'm gonna say I kind of I did right, I did give up on on school.

00:03:42.766 --> 00:03:52.461
I gave up on the whole GED thing and with my journey, with still pursuing this entertainment thing, I still go off the gremlin.

00:03:52.461 --> 00:03:55.235
A lot of my guys that was in bed was going to gremlin.

00:03:55.235 --> 00:04:05.909
They hit me up like, hey, bro, you can come out here, you need to get your GED right and but I was still executing and pursuing it, networking with with DJs right.

00:04:05.909 --> 00:04:10.943
So I remember I got locked up on a petty little charge drug paraphernalia.

00:04:11.439 --> 00:04:12.163
I went to court.

00:04:12.163 --> 00:04:13.807
My mama came to court with me.

00:04:13.807 --> 00:04:18.826
The judge told me that I looked like a good kid and if I get my GED, I dropped my charge.

00:04:18.826 --> 00:04:20.764
I went and got my GED.

00:04:20.764 --> 00:04:23.615
I enrolled at Boulder Parish Community College.

00:04:23.615 --> 00:04:25.202
I enrolled in.

00:04:25.202 --> 00:04:26.869
I was taking up business.

00:04:26.869 --> 00:04:29.564
At mid I flunked out my first year with All Fs.

00:04:29.564 --> 00:04:32.932
Just to let y'all know, all Fs How'd you do that.

00:04:35.362 --> 00:04:39.048
I did that because how I did that was okay.

00:04:39.048 --> 00:04:43.415
At that time I was a Bebe kid.

00:04:43.415 --> 00:04:53.687
I was handling promotion for Bebe right, and I was still a mean celebrity promotion for Bebe right, and I was still me celebrity.

00:04:53.687 --> 00:04:57.079
So in my mind it was I'm already old, I'm already famous, it's so good, I don't need school for real.

00:04:57.079 --> 00:05:07.524
For real, and I dropped the ball like I went, I do my work and then I just come back for my finals.

00:05:07.524 --> 00:05:09.949
But still, at that time I had bad habits.

00:05:09.949 --> 00:05:15.766
So instead of studying, I'm hanging with friends, I'm on the block just chilling.

00:05:15.766 --> 00:05:20.732
It got to the point to where I'm coming to class and I'm like, damn, we got a test today.

00:05:20.732 --> 00:05:23.548
So I was that bad with school.

00:05:23.548 --> 00:05:27.389
So at that moment I stayed out of college for a year.

00:05:27.940 --> 00:05:28.845
I got real serious.

00:05:28.845 --> 00:05:30.401
I started reading business books.

00:05:30.401 --> 00:05:31.482
I was working at Wendy's.

00:05:31.482 --> 00:05:36.127
I had my manager tell me hey, you're too bright, you need to go back to school.

00:05:36.127 --> 00:05:49.194
Yes, I'm born and built you fucking out, and I was looking to go back, made that tweet.

00:05:49.194 --> 00:05:57.639
Probably about two to three hours later the Chancellor contacted me on Twitter like hey, oh, before you enroll, I want to have a meeting with you.

00:05:57.639 --> 00:06:00.569
We had a meeting with the Chancellor at the time.

00:06:00.569 --> 00:06:03.225
We had a great conversation.

00:06:03.225 --> 00:06:08.134
That conversation went to I want you to work for me, and it went.

00:06:08.134 --> 00:06:08.485
It went from there.

00:06:08.485 --> 00:06:08.696
Hey, I want to.

00:06:08.696 --> 00:06:09.802
I want you to work for me, and it went, it went from there.

00:06:09.802 --> 00:06:10.612
Hey, I want to work for you.

00:06:10.612 --> 00:06:12.136
They want me to work for me.

00:06:12.136 --> 00:06:15.646
Ask me why I wanted to actually get my my degree.

00:06:15.646 --> 00:06:25.120
Because he said that you can be successful without having a degree and I just simply said that I know my degree will will open up more doors, open up more doors for me.

00:06:25.120 --> 00:06:27.382
And it went from there.

00:06:27.401 --> 00:06:30.163
So I, like I say I went to college my first year.

00:06:30.163 --> 00:06:31.324
I flunked out all F's.

00:06:31.324 --> 00:06:32.105
I came back.

00:06:32.105 --> 00:06:35.067
But when I came back I was real determined.

00:06:35.067 --> 00:06:36.367
I got involved.

00:06:36.367 --> 00:06:39.310
I tell any student to get involved.

00:06:39.310 --> 00:06:44.394
I worked in public relations, did that for a year, got transferred over to student life for a year.

00:06:44.413 --> 00:06:45.675
After that I still wanted to do it.

00:06:45.675 --> 00:06:46.355
I became a student recruiter.

00:06:46.355 --> 00:06:47.136
I still wanted to do it.

00:06:47.136 --> 00:06:47.175
I.

00:06:47.175 --> 00:06:48.476
I became a student recruiter.

00:06:48.476 --> 00:06:49.718
I still wanted to do it.

00:06:49.718 --> 00:06:53.139
I became a representative for SGA.

00:06:53.139 --> 00:06:54.564
So that was amazing.

00:06:55.326 --> 00:07:00.180
After that I became the first campus DJ at Boise Parish Community College.

00:07:00.180 --> 00:07:04.266
From there, I just kept working.

00:07:04.266 --> 00:07:09.514
I became the 2019 homecoming king as well at Boise Parish Community College.

00:07:09.514 --> 00:07:13.605
So I was just able to do a lot.

00:07:13.605 --> 00:07:15.430
But I just came back.

00:07:15.511 --> 00:07:23.187
I was more focused, I knew why I needed my degree, I knew how I was going to use my degree and I just thank God that I'm here today.

00:07:23.187 --> 00:07:26.228
Everything I'm doing now is just extra.

00:07:26.228 --> 00:07:34.165
I just wanted to be a go DJ and now just to be operating and running a company for real with an associate's degree.

00:07:34.165 --> 00:07:39.024
So I do know most people that's a CEO of a company or a president of a company.

00:07:39.024 --> 00:07:41.778
Nine times out of 10, you're gonna have to have a master's degree.

00:07:41.778 --> 00:07:51.148
Sometimes you might have to have a PhD, but I'm thankful to where I have an associate's degree president of a company, helping the company generate income.

00:07:52.300 --> 00:07:54.968
So it's about get out here.

00:07:54.968 --> 00:07:57.228
If you got a dream for real, I just tell anybody.

00:07:57.228 --> 00:07:58.425
If I can do it, you can too.

00:07:58.425 --> 00:08:01.747
I know better than anybody across the board.

00:08:01.747 --> 00:08:03.252
I never met my dad.

00:08:03.252 --> 00:08:04.285
I'm 33 years old.

00:08:04.285 --> 00:08:06.869
I come from a single parent household.

00:08:06.869 --> 00:08:11.884
Nobody in my family does anything at all with entertainment.

00:08:11.884 --> 00:08:29.252
So I'm a firm believer that if you have a dream and you put the work in and you believe in the higher power, you believe in God and you got faith to execute and put the work in that you can and you will be successful, and that's my message for y'all today.

00:08:29.444 --> 00:08:31.057
Yes, that was beautiful.

00:08:31.057 --> 00:08:31.783
I appreciate it.

00:08:31.783 --> 00:08:35.649
That was a journey, that was a story and you're still on it.

00:08:35.649 --> 00:08:36.332
I'm still going.

00:08:38.288 --> 00:08:40.615
I feel like I'm just getting started.

00:08:40.615 --> 00:08:47.195
Yeah, I'm a partner now, with 3.5 thousand miles, just on 7611 Pine Road.

00:08:47.195 --> 00:09:01.990
So now, like everything I've been working on, working so hard for I've been on the journey for 15 years it's now coming into fruition, everything coming together, and I love it.

00:09:01.990 --> 00:09:07.857
So when I said I'm a jackal, I forgot to say I'm a videographer as well at my church.

00:09:07.857 --> 00:09:17.730
So sometimes I be in front of the camera, sometimes I be behind the camera, sometimes I'm the DJ, sometimes I'm the business manager sitting there, sometimes I'm the DJ, sometimes I'm the business manager.

00:09:17.730 --> 00:09:38.943
But my ultimate thing is that I just want to create jobs, create experiences, take care of my clients and everybody involved with their journey and their process, just making sure everybody gets paid, and that's just what it is.

00:09:38.943 --> 00:09:43.432
So I'm not trying to take advantage of nobody.

00:09:43.493 --> 00:09:45.918
I want to put right people in the right positions so we all can.

00:09:45.918 --> 00:09:46.581
We all can win.

00:09:46.581 --> 00:09:46.922
I love that.

00:09:46.922 --> 00:09:47.964
How can we find you?

00:09:47.964 --> 00:09:48.946
What are your handles?

00:09:49.407 --> 00:09:52.350
um, everything is at no, dj Jake.

00:09:52.350 --> 00:09:57.118
All of us on that's on Facebook, that's on TikTok, that's on IG.

00:09:57.118 --> 00:10:03.715
Snapchat is GoHustlerJCorey, but basically all my social media platforms is at GoDJJCoreyLamar.

00:10:07.125 --> 00:10:08.187
There you have it, guys.

00:10:08.187 --> 00:10:10.633
Make sure you guys follow him.

00:10:10.633 --> 00:10:12.697
See all that he's doing.

00:10:12.697 --> 00:10:15.389
Reach out to him If you need any type of help.

00:10:15.389 --> 00:10:16.653
This is your guy.

00:10:16.653 --> 00:10:18.999
All right, he's here.

00:10:18.999 --> 00:10:20.931
He has a serving heart.

00:10:20.931 --> 00:10:21.251
Y'all.

00:10:21.251 --> 00:10:22.668
Thank y'all so much.

00:10:22.668 --> 00:10:24.350
We'll catch y'all next time.

00:10:24.350 --> 00:10:24.951
Bye.
