The Grand Writer: Transforming Faith into Fiction
In our latest "Experiencing Amazing Transformations" podcast episode, we were joined by a fascinating creator who calls himself "The Grand Writer." This mysterious author, who never shows his face while working, has created an impressive portfolio of fifteen books, drawing inspiration from biblical stories and his personal experiences to craft engaging narratives for readers of all ages.
The Grand Writer's main series, "Epic, the Shield Knight," follows a young man named Lucas who possesses a magical, shape-shifting shield. This versatile protective device transforms according to Lucas's needs in battle – sometimes becoming a ricochet shield similar to Captain America's, other times functioning as a battering ram, and occasionally morphing into what the author describes as one of his favorite creations: a turtle shell with a biting head that slows down opponents. What makes this series particularly meaningful is its biblical inspiration, specifically drawing from the story of Moses. Just as Moses initially felt inadequate for the mission God gave him, the protagonist Lucas experiences a similar divine calling and journey of accepting his purpose despite his perceived shortcomings. Beyond his primary series, The Grand Writer has expanded into humor with "Triple the Tom Foolery," a comedic work that came out last Christmas. This gag comic utilizes a four-panel format called "four coma," where readers progress from the top panel downward. In this lighthearted series, the author splits himself into three personas: a green creative self, a red hardworking self, and a blue British self (though he notes with amusement that he isn't British at all). In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he contracted the virus and experienced a severe case that became a pivotal moment in his life. This brush with mortality prompted a profound realization: "We all get one life on this planet, so why not live it the best way you can?" This awakening inspired him to return to writing, a passion he had pursued in high school when he wrote two novels that he never published (and jokingly says will be buried with him to ensure no one ever reads them). Since this epiphany, he has committed to creating stories that matter, with a goal of writing a hundred books throughout his lifetime.
The Grand Writer embodies a creative philosophy summarized in his opening statement: "If you're good at something, never do it for free. However, you can do it for cheaper pricing."
