Rising Above: The Remarkable Journey of Jcorey Williams

The journey of Go DJ J'Corey Lamar is a testament to perseverance, determination, and the power of believing in yourself despite overwhelming obstacles. In a recent episode of "Experiencing Amazing Transformations" recorded at the Beacon Cookout, J'Corey shared his remarkable path from educational struggles to becoming the president of a thriving entertainment company.
J'Corey's story begins with disappointment. As a talented musician with a band scholarship to Grand Valley State University after marching in the Woodland Marching Band, his educational trajectory took an unexpected turn when he failed to pass his graduation exam. Despite succeeding in math and English, science and social studies proved insurmountable barriers. This setback led to the loss of his scholarship and, for a time, his motivation. The irony wasn't lost on him—having once laughed at students who had to return to school for tests, he now found himself in that very position. This humbling experience taught him compassion and perspective, valuable assets for his future leadership role.
After a brief brush with the law over a minor drug paraphernalia charge, J'Corey received unexpected motivation from a judge who saw potential in the young man. The judge offered to drop the charges if J'Corey obtained his GED, providing the push he needed to return to education. This pivotal moment led him to Boulder Parish Community College where, despite initially failing all his courses due to prioritizing his budding DJ career over academics, he eventually returned with renewed determination. His transformation was remarkable—from a struggling student to becoming deeply involved in campus life, working in public relations, student life, becoming a student recruiter, SGA representative, and ultimately the first campus DJ and 2019 homecoming king.
What makes J'Corey's story particularly inspiring is how he leveraged his education and passion for music to build an impressive career. Today, as president of Go DJs Global since 2021, he oversees 250 DJs, coordinates events, and manages marketing and promotional campaigns that help companies build their brands and generate revenue. His reach extends to 12 different radio stations, and he's even ventured into acting, performing in a stage play brought to Street Bowl, Louisiana by Katrina Walker, for whom he serves as marketing director. His journey from aspiring DJ to company president with just an associate's degree demonstrates that traditional educational paths aren't the only route to success.
Perhaps the most powerful aspect of J'Corey's message is how he views his success in the context of his background. Coming from a single-parent household and never having met his father, with no family connections in the entertainment industry, he built everything from scratch. His story powerfully illustrates that with determination, faith, and hard work, dreams can materialize regardless of one's starting point. At 33, J'Corey sees himself as just getting started, with recent developments including a partnership with 3.5 thousand miles on Pine Road bringing his 15-year journey to fruition. His multifaceted skill set—DJ, videographer, business manager—enables him to create jobs, experiences, and opportunities not just for himself but for others. His ultimate goal isn't personal gain but ensuring that everyone around him succeeds: "I just want to put right people in the right positions so we all can win."
